3 Kinky Things to Watch on Netflix to get your BDSM on

At some point in your life, you might find yourself aimlessly browsing Netflix. And if you are a kinky person, you might wish for a “kinky” category. Well, as long as Netflix won’t provide one, you can click the “Netflix” tag in the “What’s your Kink” cloud and see my kinky and BDSM Netflix recommendations. And in this post, I give you the highlights: a documentary, a movie and a binge-worthy tv show.

1. Sex&Love Around the World

Netflix' Sex and Love Around the World on Kinkstarter

In this Documentary tv show, CNN’s Christiane Amanpour travels around the world to search for the similarities and differences in the experience of sexuality. Unsurprisingly, she finds kink communities everywhere. This is especially true in the Sex&Love episodes on Berlin and India. In Berlin, the reporter visits both a Shibari class and professional Dominatrices. In the narration we can detect some annoying stereotyping and prejudices (for more, see my post on this show). However, the practitioners themselves get a lot of room to talk about their experiences and motivations. Consequently, this is one of the most nuanced and positive representations of kink in the mainstream media. In India she visits an underground community, allowing for a serious discussion about the effects of the marginalized practices as well as how it ties in to the Kamasutra. This show is really worth a watch.

2. Gerald’s Game

Gerald's Game on Kinkstarter

When Stephen Kink writes a romantic, kinky get-away story, you can be sure things will not end well. And this is certainly true for Gerald’s Game, which was based on a King novel. When trying to bring a spark back in their relationship, Jessie and Gerald decide to engage in some light restraining. However, their strained relationship makes for a strained play-situation. And then Gerald has a heart attack and dies. Whilst his wife is still chained to the bed. Yes, safety is everything, people! In true King-fashion, this is a psychological thriller. However, any kinkster can see that Gerald is definitely one of us. And the creepy turn of events can easily be interpreted as a warning as to what can happen when you try to hide that part of you, instead of exploring it.

Anyway, if you’re into both thrillers and kink; if you enjoy great acting; or if you can use a lesson on the importance of safety; watch this movie. Need more info? Check out this earlier post on the film.

3. Netflix’ Bonding

Netflix Bonding on Kinkstarter

And then Netflix made a tv show about a Dominatrix and her innocent gay assistant. And there was great rejoicing. After the thrills of the movie above, this one is a cute antidote. Though Bonding does present its fair share of drama, the 20 minute episodes are mostly endearing. The show showcases a wide array of fetishes, and is generally of the opinion that YKINMKBYKIOK. (Your Kink Is Not My Kink But Your Kink Is OK). Additionally, it is a rather positive representation of sex work and makes clear the difference between a Dominatrix and a prostitute.

Really, Bonding’s Tiff is just a psych major who’s trying to pay for college. And if that means she gets paid to have people clean her house, or to abduct them, or to tickle them with feathers, that’s what she’ll do. This tv show is the most bingeworthy show on Netflix, if you ask me. And because of the length of the episodes, you can finish it in just under two hours. Pretty great, right? Check out this post for more on Bonding.
